For some women, a new outfit and hairstyle can really change their outlook. Looking in the mirror and seeing someone there that appears to care about herself can boost a self-esteem. That’s exactly what Young Mothers Inc. aim to do at their “I Love You Makeover” event in Washington for local homeless women.
On April 19, the group will takeover the Covenant House and offer free makeovers to the women of the shelter on Mississippi Ave. At the shelter, they will get makeovers done at no cost.
“Everyone will receive some sort of makeover, whether it’s from the business attire and help with a celebrity stylist, the make-up lesson or the door prize makeup sessions,” said Kamille Bundy, Executive Director of Young Mothers Inc.
Celebrity stylist, Maisie Dunbar will put pieces together for the women and Rebecca Peterson will do makeup. They have secured nail polish donations from OPI and hygiene products from Hope and Comfort.
When Bundy founded Young Mothers, it was due to her own questions about life and need for guidance as she entered adulthood. Emerging from an abusive relationship and receiving her degree, she created the organization she then needed for other women in similar situations.
“I feel so proud to be able to give others guidance and support, to share the knowledge of my struggles and to share how my struggles changed my life forever,” she said.
Young Mothers is a referral based nonprofit that works to educate, support and nurture young women to be confident role models.
If you would like to make a contribution to the event, the women are asking for donations of new undergarments, shampoo and conditioner. Donations can be dropped off at the Covenant House until April 11. The “I Love You Makeover” event will take place on April 19 at 10am until noon at the Covenant House, 2001 Mississippi Ave. SE, Washington, DC. They will feast on a light brunch catered by Yvening Event Planning and Catering.
